Centrepoint Open Stage Production for 2019
Each year Centrepoint programmes an Open Stage production where we provide roles in a professional production for actors within our community to join us on stage. They will get to work with a professional Director, Musical Director, Choreographer, Designers & Crew. They will perform alongside professional actors who in 2019 are Blair Strang and Roy Snow. In doing so, they will experience a full production process from beginning to end and improve their skills and craft to take into their next projects and back into their communities.
This year the production is our Surprise Birthday Musical. The name of actual show will be announced to the public on the 15th of April 2019. It is a comedy musical that we feel Palmerston North will love. If you wish to apply then you will need to be able to sing and have some comedy instincts! There are chorus numbers, dialogue driven scenes and several chorus and lead parts available with their own songs.

OPEN STAGE
We are still operating successfully as a professional theatre after 44 years because we have always tried to reflect the needs and inspirations of our wider community in everything we do; be it telling local stories on stage, for instance, or involving Manawatu's best performing talent in our Open Stage productions, under the guidance of industry professionals.
Open Stage is an initiative providing opportunities to those in our arts community who want to grow creatively in a supported yet rigorous learning environment. It was launched in 2015 with the New Zealand premiere of Nick Dear's Frankenstein, a production led by two professional actors with support from local actors and Basement Company, and presented to sold out crowds and critical acclaim. In 2016, we collaborated with seventeen community choirs from the lower North Island on David Greig's The Events. In 2017, another literary classic exploded onto the stage with our sold-out season of Lord of the Flies, again supported by local actors and our youth company.
